Hi Mark —

Wanted to drop a brief note to say thank you! The crew and I just got back from a whirlwind automotive adventure that saw us hit eight brands in four countries over twelve weeks of principal photography for our new Supercar series.

Once again the Porta-Jib proved to be an indispensable tool.

Generally we travel with a tremendous amount of gear. Most of it only comes out of its case once or twice during a visit with a particular brand -- But not the Porta Jib. It literally comes out to play every single day. The versatility is tremendous. With the extension on the arm we’re now getting angles we never had before. The tripod wheels have been a total game changer — The jib lives on them and when we’re inside of a car factory they make all the difference in the world. It’s increased our repositioning speed a thousand percent…

Most importantly, the Porta-Jib is absolutely robust. We’ve travelled the world with it for almost a decade and it just works. Bullet proof is the phrase that comes to mind. I can’t think of any other bit of kit in our arsenal that has had that long of a lifespan.

Ultimately, the Porta-Jib continues to help bring our shows to life. Hands down it’s some of the best money we’ve spent as a company.

The locations are as follows:

Aston Martin — Gaydon, United Kingdom
Bentley – Crewe, United Kingdom
Maserati – Modena, Italy
Lamborghini – Sant'Agata Bolognese, Italy
Porsche — Zuffenhausen, Germany
AMG – Affalterbach, Germany
Pagani — Modena, Italy
Mustang — Deerborn, Michigan & Flat Rock Final Assembly
Viper — Connor Avenue Assembly, Detroit, Michigan

It’s been particularly effective during engine builds — jibbing up and down over the engine while workers install parts… Also for arching shots that sweep over the top of the line or a car… It’s really impressive what the jib is capable of in the right hands…

What’s become clear over the years is that not every DP can think in terms of jib shots… They all do the traditional up and down… but it’s the other uses that bring it to life… We treat it like a giant tripod with additional functionality… But you have to alter your way of thinking to get the most out of it.

Warmest Regards,

Dylan Weiss
